Fox Run Semi-Dry Riesling 2014: $15 Good+ to Very Good

The Fox Run Semi-Dry Riesling (Finger Lakes, NY) $15 [Good+ to Very Good] is a somewhat unusual Semi-Dry.  Most semi-dry Rieslings are medium sweet; there is nothing “dry” about them.  This one, with its high acidity, seems to straddle the line between medium dry and medium sweet.  Streamlined and flavorful, this is a well made wine.

Bright pale lemon in color, the nose is aggressively acidic and tart, with dabs of nectarine, lime, anise, mineral and petrol making up the light intensity aromas.  Medium bodied, medium dry to medium sweet, with fairly high acidity, balance is good.  Mouth watering flavors of lime, apple, tropical fruit, anise, chalky mineral and light petrol notes are straightforward, with good intensity.  The finish is streamlined, tart, balanced, with lipsmacking good length.  January 2016

Note: This wine is less appealing after a day in the fridge.  Drink it at one sitting.
