Lafayette Reneau “Late Harvest” Riesling 2014: $15 Good+

The Chateau Lafayette Reneau “Late Harvest” Riesling (Finger Lakes, NY) 2014 $15 375ML [Good+] comes in a blue half bottle.  One might think it a dessert wine.  But it's not.  Soft and gentle, an easy sipper, this wine is quite pleasant but doesn’t have enough intensity or acidity to end a meal.  It works much better as a pre-dinner aperitif.

Pale lemon in color, the CLR has faint & delicate aromas of peach, apple, honey, citrus, pine resin and earthy/stony notes.  Light to medium bodied, quite sweet, and slightly viscous, the mouth feel is gentle.  Acidity is on the low side.  Flavors of peach, honey, bitter orange and pine resin have modest intensity but some intrigue, mainly due to the unusual bitter and pine resin notes.  The finish is well balanced but on the short side.  January 2016
