Red Tail Ridge Riesling 2014: $14 to $16 Very Good+

If the Red Tail Ridge Riesling (Seneca Lake, Finger Lakes, NY) 2014 $16 [Very Good+] is a harbinger of the 2014 vintage, get ready for a very nice group of wines.  Complex, very well balanced, and packing a good deal of flavor, this bottle of Riesling is a fine sipper and will work nicely with lighter foods too.  It is a very good value.

Medium lemon in color, the nose is full of oily/waxy pear fruit, enlivened by citrus, chalky mineral and hints of honey.  Light to medium bodied, medium dry to medium sweet, with ample acidity for zip, mouthwatering minerality adds another dimension to this wine.  Balance is impressive. Ripe waxy flavors of quince, apple, and pear fruit have very good concentration and focus and are accented by citrus and chalky mineral notes. The long finish is even keeled, nicely balanced, and shows off the waxy fruit to great effect.  Flavors linger.  May 2015
