Sheldrake Point Riesling 2014: $16 Good+ to Very Good

The Sheldrake Point Riesling (Finger Lakes, NY) 2014 $16 [Good+ to Very Good] has a rich and attractive nose, but the intensity of the wine and its finish are not quite as strong as the aromas would have you believe.  Even so, for lovers of honeyed peachy sweet Riesling, this is an attractive bottle.  Although the back label places this wine in the “medium dry” category, it is sweet.

Bright medium lemon in color, the nose is relatively rich, with scents of honeycomb, wax, sappy ripe peach, ripe apple, a bit of grapefruit, and hints of wet wool and smoky mineral.  Medium bodied and medium sweet, the Sheldrake has a lightly viscous mouth feel and no shortage of acidity.  Flavors of honey, sappy white peach, ripe apple, and grapefruit have an earthy/spicy edge.  The finish is medium intense.  December 2015
