Kemmeter “Sheldrake Point” Riesling 2015: $28 Very Good+

Kemmeter is one of very few wineries in the Finger Lakes making finely etched German-style sweet wines.  The Kemmeter Wines Riesling (Sheldrake Point Vineyard, Finger Lakes, NY) 2015 $28 [Very Good+] is beautifully balanced with delicate and precise flavors.  It is one of the finest sippers I have had in months and leaves the legions of “semi-dry” Rieslings in the dust.  Buy a bottle of this wine to nurse before or after dinner.

Medium lemon yellow in color, the aromas are cool and alpine, with scents of peach, lime, apple, pine needles, shale and white pepper.  Light bodied, medium sweet, with piquant acidity, the Kemmeter has a lovely weightless quality.  Flavors of honeyed peaches, marshmallow, lemon, lime, citrus zest and slate have impressive focus, purity and concentration.  You'll want another sip.  The finish is nicely balanced, slightly spicy, with very good length.  October 2016
