Red Tail Ridge Riesling 2015: $16 Good+ to Very Good

The Red Tail Ridge Winery Riesling (Finger Lakes, NY) $16 [Good+ to Very Good] is a fresh and fragrant wine that ranks high on the quaffability scale.  It straddles the line between medium dry and medium sweet, and is best as a sipper.

Bright medium lemon yellow in color, the nose is fresh and floral, with scents of zesty lime, apple, honey and hints of earth and wet wool.  Light to medium bodied, medium dry to medium sweet, somewhat unstructured, with a nice jot of tangy spritz-y acidity, balance is good.  Flavors of lime, apple, orange-y citrus, a waxy note and mineral have some concentration but don’t quite live up to the promise of the aromas.  The finish is a tad disjointed, mildly tart, with average length.  October 2016
